Breitenbush Hot Springs Land Trust

Purpose:

The Breitenbush Hot Springs Land Trust ensures Stewardship of the Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center’s 157 acres of land at the base of Mt Jefferson near Detroit, Oregon. This property has a mix of developed areas providing the facilities for the retreat and conference center, facilities for staff housing, hot tubs and steam bath for enjoying the natural hot springs waters and natural areas of forest land and river. Approximately 25% of the land is developed and 75% is natural.

This Land Trust’s specific purposes include, but are not limited to, retain and protect the natural and open space value, as well as the historic, architectural, archaeological and cultural aspects, of the land and related assets of Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center in perpetuity to ensure the real property remains open and available to the public.

Coservation Values. Grantor and Grantee wish to conserve the following Conservation Values.

7.1 The preservation of land for the protection and maintenance of biological resources, including natural habitat for animals, plants, fungi and other native species;

7.2 The protection of the quality of water resources, both surface and groundwater, within, around, and downstream of the Property. In particular, the Property supports the presence and preservation of the Breitenbush River and Breitenbush Hot Springs;

7.3 The preservation of ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration in plants and soil to mitigate rising atmospheric carbon levels, and to support other healthy ecosystem processes;

7.4 The preservation of relatively natural ecosystems that can support the permanence of the wildlife and ecological corridors of the Western Cascades; and

7.5 The preservation of the recreational, cultural, and architectural value of the Property as a healing retreat and conference center which promotes holistic health, spiritual growth, and facilitates the gathering of people in celebration of the experience of life, including without limitation, the preservation of public access to healing waters, retreat facilities, and holistic educational programs offered at the Property.

The Breitenbush Hot Springs Land Trust is a non-profit 501-C-3 organization. This land trust holds a Conservation Easement donated to it by the Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center.
